As we discussed in RISKWORLD’s Opening General Session, RISKWORLD means something different to everyone. For some, RISKWORLD is their time to brush up on skills and trends. For others, it’s about networking and business meetings. And, for a different group, RISKWORLD is their opportunity to discover new resources, solutions, and services to take their risk programs to new heights. Whatever brought you to San Diego, I hope your week was successful and productive.
There were a lot of us at RISKWORLD. Approximately 10,300 risk professionals made their way to San Diego, exceeding pre-pandemic numbers. These attendance numbers confirm RIMS’ stance that the demand for strong risk management capabilities and strong professionals to steer those capabilities is at an all-time high.
RISKWORLD gave us so many memorable moments. The student engagement was outstanding, and it included the IIRM Hyderabad university team winning the Spencer-RIMS Risk Management Challenge. The DEI programming that featured our first – but not last – DEI After Dark reception was a resounding success. RIMS honored some remarkable risk leaders and chapters at the conference whose contributions continue to make this Society the best in the world. The announcement of RIMS’ newest conference, The RIMS Texas Regional Conference (debuting in August 2025), is a sign of great things to come. Compound all of that with powerful keynote speakers, impactful education, 300+ RISKWORLD exhibitors, thousands of business meetings…the list of dynamic RISKWORLD 2024 moments goes on and on.
As the RIMS team does every year, it will assess RISKWORLD and stop at nothing to make RIMS 75th Anniversary celebration at RISKWORLD 2025 even better. It is never too early to mark your calendars for next year. RISKWORLD 2025 is scheduled for May 4 – 7 in Chicago.
More RIMS opportunities are on the way. Throughout the second half of the year, the Society will continue to deliver webinars, workshops and resources to help guide your risk management journeys.
Coming soon, RIMS will unveil its new ERM Advisory and Networking Community. This member-led Special Interest Group will start on RIMS Engage but, shortly thereafter, will host webinars, roundtable discussions and meet in-person at RIMS ERM Conference 2024 in Boston (November 18-19).
Now is also the time to start planning to attend one (or more) of our many regional conferences. Volunteer risk professionals are already hard at work planning RIMS Florida Educational, RIMS Chicagoland Risk Forum, RIMS Southeast Regional, RIMS Western Regional and RIMS Canada Conference. More information on RIMS Regional Conferences is available here, but I also encourage you to connect with your local RIMS Chapter for more information about risk management experiences near you.
Lastly, at the end of the month, PARIMA and RIMS will celebrate our newest RIMS-CRMP Certification holders at the PARIMA Conference in Manila. The presentation is a result of RIMS and PARIMA collaboration to set the standard for risk management around the world. Congratulations to all the risk professionals in the region who have made their professional development a priority and earned this globally recognized mark of achievement.
Let RISKWORLD be your inflection point. Bottle up that energy and excitement that was radiating out of San Diego and let’s demonstrate the value of risk management in our organizations. And, if you were not able to attend, there is no time like the present to leverage all of the ideas, strategies and new connections you gain through RIMS.
Wishing you continued success.
Sincerely,
David Arick
RIMS 2024 President
