Multiple sources have reported that this will be one of the most active Atlantic hurricane seasons in recent history. While risk professionals certainly appreciate the heads-up, some are left uncertain of their next move.
For so many of us, that’s where RIMS has always stepped in. To address the predicted extreme weather, RIMS has compiled a collection of its resources that address everything from pre-storm preparedness measures and insurance options to post-storm claims management and other recovery strategies. RIMS’ new Hurricane/Storm Risk Management Resource Center is available here.
Hurricane preparedness is just one example of how RIMS steps in to support the global risk community. Through the all-new digital Risk Management Magazine, RIMScast, webinars, workshops, and events, RIMS remains committed to delivering cutting-edge insight for all risk professionals, how and when they need it.
The Lloyd’s Academy for RIMS is one of those amazing learning experiences. This month, 20 RIMS members toured Lloyd’s headquarters where they learned about the Lloyd’s market and heard from industry experts on topics such as artificial intelligence, the impact war zones have on shipping, and even the risks involved in space debris removal. On behalf of RIMS – and the individuals who attended – I want to thank Lloyd’s for their hospitality and their continued support.
We are one step closer to another exceptional learning opportunity: RIMS Canada Conference. Registration is now open! Scheduled for October 6–9 in Vancouver, this can’t-miss experience will feature a powerful lineup of keynote speakers including change navigation strategist Jay Kiew; author and IDEA thought leader Michael Bach; and lawyer, author, and politician The Honourable Jody Wilson-Raybould. More plenary speakers, as well as the full educational program will be announced mid-July. RIMS Canada Conference is one of many outstanding RIMS Regional Conferences that offer unrivaled opportunities to connect with your local risk community.
One of the biggest challenges for all of us is time. There just doesn’t seem to be enough time in the day to steer our organizations through the unexpected, manage day-to-day operations, continue to upskill and prioritize professional development, and, most importantly, take personal time for ourselves and our families.
Recognizing that time crunch, RIMS continues to evolve and take steps to make professional development convenient. RIMS’ library of on-demand webinars is a great place to start. This month alone RIMS has added three new on-demand webinars: “Sustainability Without the Sticker Shock: Save Green While Going Green,” “Unlocking the Value of Business Continuity and Insurable Risk Management,” and “Uncovering Hidden Risks in Your Third-Party Risk Management Program.” These webinars and hundreds of RIMScast episodes are ready for you when you’re ready for them.
As always, I want to extend a huge “thank you” to chapter volunteers, committee members, and council members who help develop the content for RIMS events, Risk Management Magazine authors, RIMS conference speakers, and all the webinar and workshop presenters. Your dedication and enthusiasm empower RIMS to step up and become a guiding resource for countless risk professionals.
The next step in my RIMS Presidential Journey will be taken at RIMS Florida Educational Conference that is set for July 30 – August 3 in Naples. I am looking forward to welcoming risk professionals from the region. I hope to see you there.
Sincerely,
David Arick
RIMS 2024 President
