While the risks we face never seem to slow down and each day seems to welcome a new risk management adventure, the last couple of months of the year are usually the best for focusing on professional development.
Record-breaking attendance at RIMS ERM Conference in Boston was a clear indicator that many are already following through on that opportunity. The conference welcomed nearly 550 ERM leaders from around the world. The sessions were thought-provoking and powerful. The conversations and exhibitors were insightful, and attendees walked away with good tips to better address volatility, enhance strategy, and embed risk-aware cultures within their organizations. Congratulations to RIMS Strategic and Enterprise Risk Management Council – a volunteer group of risk professionals – for their hard work in developing the conference’s dynamic program.
While there, RIMS presented three organizations with the 2024 ERM Global Award of Distinction. The Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board, Paychex, and Tennessee Valley Authority were awarded for developing exceptional enterprise risk management programs that aligned with business strategy, improved risk identification endeavors, empowered organizational decision-makers, and changed cultures across the enterprises. We thank those organizations’ ERM teams for sharing their experiences with the RIMS community.
RIMS is ready to keep this momentum going at RISKWORLD 2025 in Chicago (May 4-7). It’s hard to believe that registration for RIMS members to attend RISKWORLD is now open and that registration for the entire global risk community will open on December 4. At that time, RIMS and the Society’s RISKWORLD Programming Committee – another volunteer-led group – will unveil all of the education sessions that will await us there. It’s always “first-come, first-served” on hotel accommodations, so I encourage members to register today.
The RIMS-CRMP certification continues to set a global risk management standard and, this month, the number of certification holders eclipsed 1,400. We’re not stopping there. As part of RIMS ongoing relationship with Brokerslink, the Society held its first-ever RIMS-CRMP workshop in Abu Dhabi. I invite you to visit the RIMS-CRMP center online and explore the collection of RIMS-CRMP Stories shared by our risk colleagues. Now is the perfect time to earn this globally accredited mark of achievement.
This month, RIMS is offering additional professional development opportunities to close out the year, in the form of eight virtual workshops and webinars for you to choose from:
- Applying and Integrating ERM – December 4-5 (Workshop)
- Leveraging Data and Analytics for Continuous Risk Management – December 5 (Workshop)

And, it is also a great time to catch up on the latest from RIMS Risk Management Magazine, RIMScast episodes, and the latest in RIMS Risk Knowledge Library, including the newly published RIMS Executive Report titled, “Understanding Interconnected Risks.”
Lastly, the RIMS Board of Directors met in Boston this month. During its quarterly meeting the Board approved several key items, including the 2025 budget and improvements in the Society’s governance that will help RIMS more effectively serve its members in the future.
As the saying goes, “Timing is Everything.” Now is a great time to focus on your professional development, and RIMS is proud to deliver all of these opportunities to help you elevate your programs and careers.
Sincerely,
David Arick
