RIMS is committed to Corporate Social Responsibility and building community. We try our best to work with our vendor partners to incorporate sustainable strategies into our events. In addition to new “green” badges, we have reduced printed signage and eliminated printed agendas, printed sessions at-a-glance, the Marketplace Directory and other event collateral in favor of a robust mobile app.
In choosing San Diego, one of the most pedestrian friendly destinations in the U.S., we have minimized the need for shuttles, reducing our event's carbon footprint.
Below are some additional examples from RISKWORLD in San Diego.

RIMS has partnered with HandsOn San Diego on this year’s Community Project. We are proud to have ESIS sponsor our event again this year.
HandsOn San Diego creates opportunities to volunteer and lead in San Diego communities. HandsOn San Diego works with local nonprofits, community organizations and parks to identify group volunteer events/projects.
Founded in 2013, HandsOn San Diego now supports about 100 other non-profit organizations by connecting volunteers and the outputs of volunteer projects with them.
What We Will Do: Create Hygiene Kits to be donated to Sharia's Closet.
Hygiene kits are in great demand by several San Diego organizations that work with the unsheltered. The kits include basic hygiene items such as toothbrushes/toothpaste, shampoo, body wipes and other essentials.
This project currently is the most in-demand tool asked for by HandsOn San Diego’s community partners who work with their neighbors facing crises.
To donate please go to HandsOn SanDiego.

Sustainability & Community
The SDCC strives to be good neighbors and stewards of the environment. Their business practices have been nationally recognized for emphasizing environmental responsibility. Green approaches are embedded in all areas of operations, with a particular focus on energy resiliency, sustainable sourcing, food waste reduction, and plastic reduction.
In support of their local communities, they also engage their staff and partners in volunteer activities, partnerships, and in-kind donation programs.
Industry-Leading Food & Beverage Practices
Local sourcing of fruits, vegetables, seafood, and other products are core to the operation. SDCC purchases within a 150-mile radius (whenever season permits) and participates in local composting programs. The kitchens do not have in-sink garbage disposal units; instead, the team is trained to place all excess food scraps into the green compost bins.
The recycling program includes 4-stream waste receptacles divided into paper, recyclables, trash, and compost. They also prioritize the purchasing of products made with recyclable and biodegradable materials.
The green approach extends to hydration: water bottle refill stations are available throughout the lobbies on the upper and lower levels.
They also partner with the local providers to donate unserved food to San Diegans in need during the event.
Material Donations
Together with event organizers, the SDCC ensures that extra promotional items or event supplies do not go to waste by donating them to local organizations like schools, libraries, churches, nonprofits, shelters, and more. These can be all kinds of things: pens, notepads, backpacks, books, chairs, tables, and many other types of items unique to the focus of their organization.
For example, they have a partnership with the local Habitat for Humanity to pick up excess booth materials from exhibitions that can be repurposed for building homes.
