A Brand New Day

RIMS 2025 President Kristen Peed provides her outlook on the risk management profession and her goals for RIMS in the new year.

January 14, 2025

Happy New Year!  It is my absolute honor to be the fortunate risk leader to serve as RIMS 2025 President, especially during the Society’s 75th anniversary year.  Throughout that history, there have been so many amazing risk professionals who have held this position and it is humbling to see my name included on that list.

While honored, I recognize that there is still a lot of work to be done to keep this profession and RIMS moving in the right direction.

Everyday feels like A Brand New Day in Risk. It seems as though each morning we awake to new and evolving risks. From cybersecurity and technological innovation to geopolitical volatility and extreme weather events, a host of traditional and never-before-seen global risks are dramatically impacting the businesses we work for and the communities we live in.

What the global risk community knew to be true in the past might not necessarily be what the future has in store for us. With that understanding, it is critical for risk professionals to be prepared to pivot at a moment’s notice to ensure the safety, resiliency, and prosperity of the people around us.

So, how do we prepare for that? The first step is to embrace this Brand New Day in Risk Management. While the world flinches at uncertainty, risk professionals fearlessly march toward it, recognizing that changes in our world present enormous opportunity.

New opportunities to innovate, reinvent strategies, improve efficiencies, and explore untapped markets will require risk professionals to be at the top of their game. Acknowledging that, our focus must be on professional development and networking to accelerate our programs and careers.

The evolution of risks and our approach to managing them leads us to this Brand New Day for RIMS. There is no question that RIMS has a remarkable history dating back to 1950 when it was called the National Insurance Buyers Association. Although the risks have changed significantly since then, RIMS continues to be the heartbeat of the risk community, bringing risk professionals together to share ideas, experiences, and to address the world’s biggest challenges.

In this brand-new day for RIMS, my priority is to help risk professionals prepare for the unknowns of tomorrow with thought-leading insight and invaluable networking.

I am beyond grateful to give back to a Society that has done so much for me and so many other risk professionals from all backgrounds and at all experience levels. And, with the support of an incredibly accomplished Board of Directors, RIMS talented staff, passionate volunteers, and invested industry partners, I am confident that the RIMS community will seize the opportunities that accompany this brand new day and thrive for years to come.

Sincerely,

Kristen Peed
RIMS 2025 President
