Raise Your Hand

RIMS President Kristen Peed recaps the Legislative Summit and provides an update on RISKWORLD and new risk management resources.

March 24, 2025

Just last week, a record-breaking number of super passionate risk professionals raised their hands to help advance RIMS legislative priorities at our annual Legislative Summit.  These individuals, who hail from all parts of the United States and a wide range of industries, cumulatively participated in more than 80 meetings at elected officials’ offices to raise awareness about important issues facing the profession and RIMS. I want to thank all of our attendees who joined RIMS in Washington, DC, as well as the amazing volunteers on RIMS Public Policy Committee and the RISK PAC Trustees Committee who went above and beyond to make the Summit a success.

Raise your hand if you’ve booked your flights to join me in Chicago for RISKWORLD 2025!  It is hard for me to express in writing the excitement I have for this can’t miss risk management experience.

My advice to both new and returning attendees is to go into RISKWORLD with a plan. There is just too much to do, too many Marketplace solutions to explore, and so many cutting-edge education sessions to choose from not to have a RISKWORLD strategy.

That plan is going to come in handy this year because the traditional RISKWORLD schedule has changed. Because of your feedback, gone are the days of 7a.m. breakfasts, and here are the days of more peer-to-peer networking experiences.  I encourage both new attendees AND RISKWORLD veterans to explore the revamped schedule to ensure you get the most out of your trip.

Additionally, many of you raised your hands and asked for more opportunities to connect and collaborate with other risk professionals. So, RIMS is proud to present another all-new education track titled, RISK UNSCRIPTED: 360º Conversations. This track will cover current events and emerging risks. More importantly, it delivers a forum for risk professionals to have valuable conversations to not only understand how others are coping with volatility, but to inspire ideas that will help us navigate uncertainty. Kudos to the volunteer risk professionals who serve on the RISKWORLD Programming Committee for this exciting new addition.

Raise your hand if you agree that the key to risk management success is knowledge. RIMS is always looking for ways to deliver thought-leading insight, and this month, it is proud to announce a new “education exchange” with The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA). Leaning on each other, the groups will provide both professional communities with greater access to career-building and program-advancing learning experiences. Twenty-nine virtual, on-demand webinars and workshops are part of this exchange. I encourage members from both groups to check it out.

Lastly, raise your hand if you’ve ever been called on to help manage a crisis after the fact. If your hand is up – and I know it is – wouldn’t it have been nice if there was a strategy already in place to manage it (or even to have prevented it)? A big shout-out to RIMS Strategic and Enterprise Risk Management Committee for our latest report, “The Pre-Mortem Method: Learning from Failure Without Actually Failing.” Give yourself an advantage and check out the new report today.

It is truly amazing to watch all of these RIMS volunteers work together to address today’s biggest risks! But it is even more amazing to watch them develop guides, tools and experiences to help their risk management friends do the same. However you choose to engage with RIMS – whether as a volunteer, a conference attendee, a speaker, an author, a partner, or as a member – thank you for raising your hand. Thank you for stepping up, contributing, and making the RIMS community the best in the world!

Sincerely,

Kristen Peed
RIMS 2025 President
