RIMS members from all six of the Society’s California chapters – Golden Gate, Los Angeles, Orange County, Sacramento, San Diego, Silicon Valley – attended the two-day event that featured presentations by industry and government experts, as well as provided attendees with the opportunity to meet face-to-face with their local legislators to discuss the most significant risk management issues affecting the discipline.
Presentations during the two-day conference included:
>> “What is Going On in the Legislature?” presented by Jason Schmelzer, Shaw/Yoder/Antwih, Inc.; Julianne Broyles, California Advocates; Lori Kammerer, Kammerer & Associates;
>> “An Insider’s Perspective” presented by Mark Rakich, Chief Consultant, Assembly Insurance Committee;
>> “An Employer’s Look at 2012” presented by Janet Selby, Municipal Pooling Authority;
>> “Regulatory Landscape” presented by Christine Baker, Director of the Department of Industrial Relations and Rosa Moran, Administrative Director for the Division of Workers’ Compensation.
On the second day of RIMS on the Mall, attendees met with more than 20 state legislators to discuss key risk management and insurance issues including workers’ compensation reform and reinsurance modernization.
The expanded regional RIMS on the Hill events are part of a strategic initiative to expand the scope of RIMS’ foothold in legislative and regulatory matters. RIMS will continue to be a watchful advocate on the national front, but will also dedicate resources to its regional RIMS on the Hill events in coming years.
