University School of Economics Dean Hosts Dedication Ceremony to Officially Open ‘The RIMS Corner’

NEW YORK (September 5, 2017) – RIMS, the risk management society™, has partnered with Peking University to give students access to the Society’s collection of thought-leading risk management knowledge and resources. The University’s Dean of School of Economics, Professor Sun Qixiang welcomed RIMS President Nowell Seaman and Board Director Robert Zhang to officially open “The RIMS Corner” publication center in the University’s School of Economics Library.

The RIMS Corner features a wide selection of RIMS Executive and Professional reports, guides, surveys, articles and published standards available to the University’s full-time students, part-time students and faculty. The publication center supports the University’s growing risk management curriculum, as well as the Society’s strategic goal to equip risk professionals globally.

“Increasingly, strong risk management capabilities are becoming universally accepted as an essential organizational asset,” said RIMS President Nowell Seaman. “We are always proud to share our risk management resources, expertise and tools with our peers around the world and recognize the importance of supporting the next generation of practitioners. RIMS sincerely thanks the University for allowing us to introduce RIMS to their constituents and looks forward to learning from this relationship.”
"School of Economics of Peking University was founded in 1912 as the first modern economics institute in Chinese history. Our mission is to steer economic development to improve the welfare of people worldwide. We believe that insurance and other risk management techniques are important tools to reach our goal." said Dean Sun Qixiang.

“China’s emerging risk management community has made tremendous progress in recent years and RIMS intends to commit future global expansion efforts to support its evolution,” said RIMS Board Director Robert Zhang, who is also the Risk Management and Compliance Director for IKEA China. “Peking University continues to be an excellent partner and we are honored to have an on-campus center dedicated to RIMS resources.”
RIMS has plans to host its first RIMS Risk Forum China in Beijing on October 26, 2017. The one-day public forum will feature keynote presentations and educational programming delivered by a group of risk management experts and leading insurance industry partners. More information will be available soon.

Additionally, for the first time, RIMS awarded four international students – a group that included Jing Chen and Siming Fan from Peking University – with the Society’s Anita Benedetti Student Involvement Program grant. The program, sponsored by The Spencer Educational Foundation, recognizes the achievements of outstanding undergraduate and graduate risk management students. Selected students are awarded funds for travel expenses, complimentary hotel accommodations and registration to attend RIMS Annual Conference & Exhibition.
