Lucille “Lucky” Gallagher’s 35-year risk management career included numerous professional and personal achievements.
Now retired, Ms. Gallagher was the CEO and Managing Partner of Human Resource Risk Management (HRRM), a firm consulting with employers, healthcare providers, insurance carriers and claims administrators on the reduction of cost of risk relating to human resources.
Throughout her career, Ms. Gallagher held several risk management positions including: Vice President of Risk Management for ConAgra Refrigerated Foods, Vice President of Risk Management for ConAgra Red Meat Cos, Vice President of Operations of Weld Insurance Co., a wholly-owned captive insurance company. She also held the position of Vice President at Monfort of Colorado, Inc.
She has managed a myriad of risk management programs with responsibilities that have included the overall risk management of insured and self-funded programs in employee benefits, safety, health and ergonomics, integrated management of workers compensation and non-occupational disability and treatment, as well as management of in-house claims administration of workers compensation in 11 states, automobile liability and product liability claims.
In addition to her corporate risk responsibilities, Ms. Gallagher was an active RIMS member. She joined the Society’s Executive Committee in 1990 and served as its Vice President, Government Affairs and Vice President, Conferences. In 1994, she was nominated and served as RIMS President.
During her career, Ms. Gallagher was also active in State government. She served on the State of Colorado Insurance Board, appointed by then Gov. Richard Lamm. And, in 1989, she was appointed by Gov. Roy Romer to serve on the Task Force on Insurance to aid in the selection of the new insurance commissioner. She was also appointed to the Governor’s Workers Compensation Oversight Task Force.
In 1985, she won RIMS Richard W. Bland Award, given for outstanding work in the legislative and regulatory arenas relating to risk management and insurance issues.
In April 1994, Ms. Gallagher was named Risk Manager of the Year by Business Insurance and, in 2000, named to the magazine’s 100 Leading Women in Insurance list.
An active member in her community, Ms. Gallagher was a member of the Board of Directors of the University of Colorado Insurance Pool, appointed by the Board of Regents, served as President of the Board for the Arapahoe House, the largest not-for-profit alcohol and drug treatment facility in Colorado, as well as President of the Arapahoe House Foundation. Additionally, she served as President of the Colorado Neurological Institute, Committee Chair for the United Way of Weld County and worked with the Greeley Center for Independence.
