RIMS in ASEAN
With strong support from Singapore’s risk management community, key industry and professional bodies including government agencies such as the Monetary Authority of Singapore and Singapore Accountancy Commission, RIMS formed its Singapore Regional Advisory Group in 2017. The group comprises local risk professionals who volunteer their time and expertise to provide insight on regional trends impacting the profession. Additionally, the Regional Advisory Group helps the Society identify opportunities to further advance the profession and has been instrumental in promoting regionally-relevant products, services, knowledge, as well as developing programming for several in-person networking and education events.
RIMS completed its registration in Singapore in 2018 and employed one consultant there to represent the Society in the ASEAN region. At the onset, 20 members of the Singapore Ministry of Home Affairs joined RIMS as Professional Members.
RIMS efforts in Singapore include collaboration with higher-education institutions. RIMS has partnered with Nanyang Technological University to support the university’s development of Enterprise Risk Management courses that align with the RIMS-CRMP Certification. In 2017, Nanyang Technological University undergraduates were finalists in the 2017 Spencer RIMS Risk Management Challenge that took place at the RIMS Annual Conference & Exhibition in Philadelphia. Together, Nanyang University and RIMS hosted an inaugural RIMS-CRMP certification preparation course in 2018 supported by the SkillsFuture Framework.
RIMS has collaborated with Singapore Management University to develop an Enterprise Risk Management course based on the RIMS-CRMP Certification as well. The first intake took place in May of 2019.
In 2020, the inaugural class of Singapore risk professionals received their RIMS-CRMP certification, the only accredited risk management certification in the world. Singapore now has the highest number of certificate holders outside of North America.
