Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Advisory Council

As a member of the DEI Advisory Council, you will play a pivotal role in advancing inclusive initiatives across the Society. In 2025, the Council will concentrate on four strategic priorities:

  • Community Partnerships: Collaborate with local affinity groups and organizations to strengthen connections and promote inclusion.
  • Inclusive Programming and Events: Ensure that RIMS programs and events reflect and celebrate diversity and inclusion.
  • Communication and Outreach: Enhance DEI initiatives through clear and engaging messaging.
  • Chapter Resources: Provide RIMS chapters and members with tools to advance inclusivity within their communities.

Public Policy Committee

The Public Policy Committee promotes and supports risk management by analyzing legislative, regulatory and legal issues; recommending policy and viewpoints for RIMS; providing sound risk management responses to these issues and educating members on how these issues will affect their industry and/or profession.

  • Produce a Legislative Summit that draws at least 50 registered attendees and incorporates leadership development training for the Society’s Council of Chapter Presidents.
  • Produce and deliver an advocacy session at RISKWORLD that focuses on the Committee’s recent work, the importance of member engagement, and the role that RISK PAC plays in the Society’s legislative efforts.
  • Coordinate with U.S. chapters to identify and recruit chapter “advocacy ambassadors” who will serve as local proponents of the Society’s advocacy program. 
  • Develop and deliver at least one advocacy webinar focusing on a key legislative issue that the Committee would like members to engage with and support.

RIMS Awards Committee

The purpose of the RIMS Awards Committee is to select various RIMS volunteer, member, and chapter awards as assigned and according to their appropriate schedules.

Rising Risk Professional (RRP) Advisory Group

The Rising Risk Professional (RRP) Advisory Group consists of RIMS members under the age of 30 that advise and support the advancement of early career risk professionals throughout the Society and its chapters. Serve as a resource and provide input and feedback to the RIMS Board throughout the year.

  • Provide a presentation to chapter presidents on RRP programs within chapters at the RIMS Chapter Leadership Program. 
  • Recruit one RRP liaison to each chapter; engage those chapter liaisons on a private Engage channel to support and engage them in building and growing chapter programs.
  • Invite all RRP members to engage on a private Engage channel and actively participate in discussions and Q&A to support and encourage program development.
  • Host attendees to attend the RRP reception at RISKWORLD.
  • Develop criteria and supporting information for a RRP program or the year, for approval by the RIMS Board at its Summer meeting.
  • Support the nomination and selection process for the RRP program of the year, in time for presentation at RISKWORLD.
  • Hold at least two webinars with RRP program leaders to share ideas and perspectives and assist one another in building better programs.

 


RISK PAC Trustees Committee

The RISK PAC Trustees Committee support the political campaigns of those worthy candidates for U.S. federal office who have demonstrated their belief in the principles to which RISK PAC is dedicated. To achieve these purposes, RISK PAC is empowered to solicit and accept voluntary contributions from individuals permitted to make such contributions pursuant to applicable law and to expend such contributions to influence the nomination for election and the election of candidates to federal office.

  • Obtain contributions from 100% of RISK PAC Trustees.
  • Obtain contributions from at least 75% of eligible RIMS Board members.
  • Host a RISK PAC reception at RISKWORLD that raises at least $1,500.
  • Generate at least $15,000 in total contributions for the year.
  • Identify and contribute to the campaigns of at least 10 candidates for U.S. federal office.

RIMS Canada Council—Conference Education Committee

The Conference Education Committee is a subcommittee of the RIMS Canada Council. Its role is to provide national and long-term oversight of the RIMS Canada Conference to consistently deliver a high-quality conference experience in keeping with the Conference Core Deliverables, which are professional development and thought leadership, networking opportunity for the risk management community and industry representatives, the marketplace for sponsors and exhibitors to showcase products and services, membership engagement and retention, and revenue source for RIMS Canada and its chapters.

Strategic and Enterprise Risk Management Council

The Strategic and Enterprise Risk Management Council (SERMC) supports RIMS in achieving its vision and objectives as a premier organization by:

  • Providing thought leadership and expertise in the areas of Strategic and Enterprise Risk Management (SERM) and programs.
  • Promoting and advancing the ERM and SRM profession and related capabilities by development and delivery of risk methodologies and methods that are innovative and pragmatic.
  • Producing SERM thought leadership white papers, podcasts, webinars, and other resources. 
  • Overseeing the timely development and delivery of meaningful content for the RIMS annual ERM Conference. 
  • Reviewing RISKWORLD SERM session submissions and providing feedback to the Annual Conference Programming Committee (ACPC). 
  • Leading the RIMS Global ERM Award of Distinction process by evaluating submissions and selecting final recipients. 
  • Supporting ongoing development and enhancement of the RIMS Risk Maturity Model and other SERM tools by identifying and prioritizing development and improvement opportunities and plans to address.

Communications and External Affairs Committee (RIMS Canada Council sub-committee)

The Communications and External Affairs is a subcommittee of the RIMS Canada Council. Its role is to create value for its members through an engaging dialogue regarding the Risk Management industry and RIMS activities in Canada. Brings a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion lens to all RIMS Canada national activities.

  • Supports Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and related national activities.
  • Facilitates relationships (i.e., monitoring, assessing, collaborating) between RIMS, the RCC and its sub-committees, Canadian members, federal/provincial regulatory officials, and other governing bodies.
  • Facilitates information sharing among Canadian members using the RIMS Canada Newsletter, the RIMS in Canada website, RIMS in Canada LinkedIn group, RIMS in Canada Twitter account, and other communication channels.
  • Provides guidance and recommendations to the RCC regarding communications with RIMS, Canadian RIMS Chapters, Canadian members, and external bodies.
  • Provides updates to local chapter boards and Canadian members regarding developments that could have an impact on their activities and the activities of their members.
  • Engages available external media to facilitate, promote general awareness, and forward the position of the RCC and RIMS in Canada as the leading risk management association in Canada.

Council of Chapter Presidents

 The purpose of the Council of Chapter Presidents (the “Council”) of the Board of Directors (the “Board”) of the Risk and Insurance Management Society, Inc. (the “Society”) is to provide (a) leadership training and networking opportunities for chapter leaders; (b) a vehicle for chapter leaders to share chapter issues and concerns with the Society; and (c) a platform for the Society to work with chapter leaders to discuss Society initiatives and pilot programs at the chapter level. 


Finance Committee

The Finance Committee reviews, analyzes and makes recommendations to the Board of Directors concerning the financial well being of the Society. In this role, it oversees the annual budgets and presents it to the Board for approval.


Nominating Committee

The Nominating and Governance Committee identifies, recruits, and formally nominates Society members to serve on the Board of Directors. The Committee also (1) oversees the orientation and training of new Board members, (2) assists with the development of Board members during their terms of service, (3) reviews and recommends modifications, as appropriate, to the Society’s governance structure, committee structure, and governance documents, including the bylaws and governance polices, and (4) considers other governance issues that arise, and makes appropriate recommendations to the Board.


RIMS-CRMP Certification Commission

The Commission provides oversight of and ensures that the RIMS-CRMP meets and maintains best industry practices in credentialing. The Commission aids in establishing and implementing policies related to granting, maintaining, renewing and suspending, withdrawing, and expanding and reducing the scope of the certification. Members of the Commission may also serve on various subcommittees such as Nominating, Ethics, Exam Development and Appeals.


RISKWORLD Programming Committee

The RISKWORLD Programming Committee plays a key role in the success of RISKWORLD. Members of the Committee evaluate and select the presentation of educational sessions and industry sessions. Additionally, the Committee creates opportunities for networking and encourages the discussion, presentation and evaluation of critical and emerging risk management solutions.

Standards and Practices Council

The Standards and Practices Council's responsibilities are to actively engage in the development and revisions of any and all risk management standards and practices. These activities may include creation, support, coordination, leadership and promotion of national and international standards, best practices, research projects and articles pertaining to the risk management discipline.


Student Advisory Council

The council is a panel assembled to oversee and coordinate RIMS Student Outreach Programs and Membership. Its responsibilities are:

  • To continually seek ways to engage, recruit, maintain and administer student outreach programs and RIMS student membership.
  • To develop and maintain an ongoing relationship with academic organizations related to the insurance and risk management field, (e.g. Gamma Iota Sigma, ARIA), through attendance at their annual conferences and speaking engagements, and their attendance at the RIMS annual conference, and joint programs and mutual support.
  • To develop, coordinate, and administer a RIMS Student Mentor program between RIMS members and students;
  • To provide ongoing guidance to RIMS in the areas that effect students - such as membership categories and career center; Student E-Groups, chat rooms, online Q&A events, student social networking board; and professional development.
  • To develop, coordinate and administer a Student Track at the annual RIMS conference. Strive to engage more students at the conference via focus group data gathering, communications and GIS interaction.
  • To encourage chapter student involvement and support chapter involvement by the development and administration of student programs, idea exchanges and communications.​​​​​
