It has been said a million times before: risk management is a relationship business.
Developing the best risk financing program requires risk professionals, brokers, and insurers to be in-sync. For success, the group must recognize the skills and competencies of each other, while embracing open and honest communication. The same holds true inside the organization. Risk leaders are charged with building critical relationships with internal stakeholders to better understand processes, potential obstacles, and the keys to success.
However, the most overlooked relationships are the ones risk professionals forge with each other. This is where RIMS shines. The Society brings risk professionals together, giving them the platforms and resources to strengthen business resiliency and advance professionally. The second half of 2024 is filled with dynamic opportunities for the RIMS community to do just that. Here is what is in store:
This month kicks off with a powerful lineup of RIMS Regional Conferences. RIMS Chicagoland (September 19), RIMS Western Regional (September 29), RIMS Southeastern Regional (September 18) are just weeks away. Run by volunteer risk professionals who serve their local RIMS chapters, these events will deliver forward-thinking programs, as well as unbeatable opportunities to engage with risk professionals from each region.
The upcoming month also welcomes the Spencer 2024 Funding the Future Gala on September 12. In addition to celebrating the remarkable career of the Gala’s honoree Lilian Vanvieldt-Gray, the evening serves as a great reminder of the vital role each of us must play to support future generations of risk professionals.
The Canadian risk community is buzzing with anticipation for the fast-approaching RIMS Canada Conference. In early October, RIMS is expecting more than 1,000 risk professionals to join the festivities in Vancouver. The conference features 60 educational sessions covering everything from AI and cyber concerns to natural disaster risks, insurance strategies, and the advantages of DEI programming. Matched by an at-capacity exhibit hall, the opportunities to form new relationships, discover new resources, and learn new skills will be plentiful. It’s not too late to register. You can check out the RIMS Canada Conference’s full program here.
If we are talking about building relationships in risk management, we can’t leave out an update on RISKWORLD 2025. A sign of great things to come, in the first week of exhibition sales nearly 200 companies signed-up to showcase their solutions in the RISKWORLD Marketplace. The RIMS team is currently rounding out the conference’s educational program. I encourage anyone who is interested to submit a session idea today. RIMS has extended the session submission window until September 9. Here is how to submit a RISKWORLD session.
Lastly, RIMS, too, is forging its own strategic relationships. Setting a standard for risk management around the world is paramount to advancing the profession. To support that goal, RIMS and Brokerslink are teaming up to create greater opportunities for Brokerslink’s network of 45,000 professionals in 133 countries to earn the RIMS-CRMP certification. Learn more about that relationship and the RIMS-CRMP certification here.
RIMS is a trailblazer that always strives to deliver the latest trends, knowledge, and resources to empower risk professionals globally. But the often-overlooked advantage of being a part of the RIMS community is the Society’s commitment to bringing risk professionals together to share ideas and support one another. Your engagement is critical to that commitment, and we thank you for being a part of this incredibly special professional community.
Sincerely,
David Arick
