The RIMS Global ERM Award of Distinction is presented each year to organizations with ERM programs that have demonstrated ERM innovation, success in aligning risk management with strategy or performance, as well as the program’s ability to build sustaining risk management capabilities. The award is presented annually at RIMS ERM Conference.

NEW YORK (November 19, 2025)RIMS, the risk management society®, presented the 2025 Global ERM Award of Distinction to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) and to Türkiye SOCAR. PANYNJ’s ERM Manager Merline Barrington and SOCAR Türkiye’s Risk and Compliance Group Director Sadiq Hajiyev accepted the awards at RIMS ERM Conference 2025 in Seattle.

Each year, the RIMS Global ERM Award of Distinction is presented to one or more organizations with ERM programs that have demonstrated measurable, tangible and sustainable results. Administered by members of RIMS Strategic and Enterprise Risk Management Council, the winning organizations must also demonstrate ERM innovation, success in aligning risk management with strategy or performance, as well as the program’s ability to build sustaining risk management capabilities.

“At a time when risk management is so vital to success, ERM leaders from around the world have risen to the challenge and continue to demonstrate the value of the strategic risk management discipline,” said RIMS CEO Gary A. LaBranche, FASAE, CAE. “The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and SOCAR Türkiye’s ERM innovation has delivered compelling results for their organizations. RIMS proudly congratulates both for their incredible achievements and sincerely thanks them for sharing their ERM success with the RIMS community.”

About Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s ERM Success: The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) is a complex, bi-state organization, responsible for several modes of transportation including airports, seaports, rails, tunnels, bridges, terminals and real estate (World Trade Center), each with distinct risk profiles. Success of the ERM program at PANYNJ was proven to preserve organizational value and enable strategy alignment through its institutional recognition and strategic integration across the enterprise.

ERM at PANYNJ established a clear connection with organizational strategy by leveraging an emerging risk framework to systematically prioritize internal and external emerging risks and informing strategy setting.

Its program is deeply embedded and mature, serving as a vital function for strategic and operational resilience. It continues to enable the PANYNJ to meet present-day demands while anticipating future challenges.  By leveraging both quantitative and qualitative inputs, involving the right stakeholders, and tailoring messaging, ERM is seen as a critical enabler of Agency-wide alignment and long-term success.

About SOCAR Türkiye’s ERM Success: SOCAR Türkiye is one of the largest energy conglomerates in the region that focuses primarily on refining, petrochemicals, natural gas, energy trading, and environmental sustainability.  The success of its ERM program is embraced by the organization’s senior leadership and driven by deep yet flexible methodologies, as well as by a corporate culture that treats resilience as a competitive advantage rather than a compliance cost.

ERM’s positive impact on governance, compliance, culture, capability, framework adoption, and organizational agility was measured and validated by RIMS Risk Maturity Model and continues to show growth and maturity. Success in these areas has positioned the organization as a leader in the ERM space and it has become a replicated model for other entities in the region. As a result of this success, the SOCAR Türkiye’s ERM team is now co-leading the redesign of enterprise-risk policies for all SOCAR’s international subsidiaries.

SOCAR Türkiye’s leadership has embedded model-risk thinking in financial projections and risk-based budgeting. This integration has empowered business unit leaders to reimagine risks, convert uncertainty into informed decisions, and improves the assurance over resilience to support success.
