Alicia Tuckett is the Program Development Manager of Enterprise Risk Management at onsemi, one of the largest semiconductor manufacturers in the United States. She earned her RIMS-CRMP in April 2024 to help her broaden the scope of onsemi’s ERM impact.

RIMS: You have spent the last 20+ years at onsemi, a leader in the semiconductor industry. Tell us about your journey from technologist to ERM practitioner.

Tuckett: In a manufacturing environment, risk management is a constant focus. My experience in new product development refined my skills in managing risks from a product perspective. Additionally, my tenure in the business operations group, where we regularly developed risk mitigation plans, significantly prepared me for my transition to an ERM practitioner.

RIMS: When did you know that the RIMS-CRMP would benefit your work and your career?

Tuckett: I realized how useful the RIMS-CRMP would be when I wanted to boost my program management skills in risk management. The certification provided a unique focus that I found interesting and helpful for my job at onsemi.

RIMS: How did being at onsemi and working in the industry help prepare you for the exam?

Tuckett: My many years and different roles at onsemi have provided a broad view of risks from various perspectives. This well-rounded experience has been key in my understanding and managing interconnected risks at a larger scale, which really helped me prepare for the exam.

RIMS: How does the knowledge from the RIMS-CRMP resurface in your daily responsibilities at onsemi?

Tuckett: The insights gained from the RIMS-CRMP are very beneficial to my daily responsibilities at onsemi. Whether it’s through analyzing and assessing top companies, top risks, benchmarking with external peers, or collaborating with other teams on risk management practices, the knowledge is applied consistently.

RIMS: Onsemi appeared on our radar when the company was named an honoree for the RIMS ERM Award of Distinction in 2019, and was accepted by Michael Zuraw, who still leads your program. How did support from management or ERM leaders like Michael enable you?

Tuckett: Mike has been an amazing mentor and supporter in my growth in risk management. His advice and leadership have been super valuable in helping me improve my skills and advance my career. He’s always there to offer guidance and share his knowledge, which has made a huge difference for me.

RIMS: How did you study for the RIMS-CRMP exam?

Tuckett: I thoroughly reviewed the study guide and invested in several reference books. Additionally, I found the practice modules with example questions extremely helpful in my preparation.

RIMS: What tips do you have for anyone studying for the exam now?

Button: For those new to risk management, gaining some foundational experience before taking the exam is crucial. I highly recommend utilizing the RIMS modules, as they are exceptionally beneficial.

The best part was being able to study at my own pace, which was so convenient. I’m a slow reader and like to go over the material multiple times so this was perfect for me. I also found the interactive activities and post-assessments very useful. It made the experience feel less like just reading and taking a test and it was more interactive.

RIMS: What plans do you have to recertify? What are your favorite methods for accruing points?

Tuckett: I like to keep up with my recertification by attending webinars and reading books that are relevant to my field. I find webinars especially useful because they offer up-to-date information and practical insights. Rob Quail’s webinars are my favorite. They’re always engaging and packed with valuable tips. I enjoy the flexibility of being able to learn from anywhere.

RIMS: How has the RIMS-CRMP aided your career so far?

Tuckett: The RIMS-CRMP has really boosted my career by providing chances to develop and enhance our risk management program at onsemi. One of our goals is to become more integrated with the strategic aspects of the onsemi process, and this experience equips me with more knowledge to achieve them. Overall, the RIMS-CRMP helped me grow my skills as a program manager and a risk management professional.
